They\u2019ll also add around a <strong>quarter of an inch<\/strong> to their <strong>head circumference<\/strong> each month. During this time, your little one should sleep <strong>twelve to fourteen hours<\/strong> a day. This includes <strong>nine to twelve<\/strong> hours of night-time sleep, plus <strong>two to three naps<\/strong> a day which should each last between one and two hours. The 7 to 9-month period is when the number of naps per day can be decreased from three to two.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>However, you aren\u2019t quite out of the woods yet when it comes to difficult nights, we\u2019re afraid! Unfortunately, at around eight or nine months old, your little tyke will go through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiddies-kingdom.com\/blog\/newborn-essentials\/baby-cots-2\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-sleep-regression\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>sleep regression<\/strong><\/a>. This will last a few weeks and may include:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Lots of crying\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Nap resistance\/shorter naps\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Clinginess\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Waking up in the night\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Fussiness\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Whilst this sleep regression may be annoying, it\u2019s actually a compliment! It\u2019s caused by <strong>separation anxiety <\/strong>&#8211; your tot can\u2019t sleep because they miss you! As sweet as that may be, we\u2019re sure you still want this sleep regression over ASAP- so here\u2019s a few tips to help.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Tire your tyke out with physical activity during the day\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Remove distractions (like toys) from baby\u2019s crib\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Make sure your bub is well fed\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Check your baby is dry\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Put your little one down for naps at nap time (even if they don\u2019t sleep)\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Place your child in their crib rather than holding or rocking them to sleep\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Establish a predictable bedtime routine\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><strong>Food<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiddies-kingdom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/7-month-milestones-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" class=\"wp-image-6011\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kiddies-kingdom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/7-month-milestones-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Baby in high chair being fed\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stagingpresta.kiddies-kingdom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/7-month-milestones-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stagingpresta.kiddies-kingdom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/7-month-milestones-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stagingpresta.kiddies-kingdom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/7-month-milestones-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/stagingpresta.kiddies-kingdom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/7-month-milestones-1-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/stagingpresta.kiddies-kingdom.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/7-month-milestones-1-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>One of the big 7\u20139-month baby milestones is the gradual introduction of <strong>solid foods<\/strong>. At 7 months old, your baby can start to have some solid <strong>mashed or pureed food<\/strong> introduced into their mostly milk-based diet.\u00a0 There are a few key ways to check that your little one is ready for this exciting step:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>They weigh double their birth weight and are at least 13 pounds\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>They can hold their head up\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>They can sit upright in their highchair\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>They can close their mouth around food\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>They can move food from the front to the back of their mouth\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>As time progresses, you can include more and more yummy solid foods in your little connoisseur\u2019s diet, and by 9 months old their diet will be a <strong>mix of solid food and milk<\/strong>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/start4life\/weaning\/what-to-feed-your-baby\/7-9-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NHS recommends<\/a> giving your 9-month-old three meals a day, with a <strong>variety of nutrients<\/strong> and as <strong>little salt or sugar<\/strong> as possible. Food does not have to be fully pureed by this point, as you can now try your child with more <strong>mashed and lumpy<\/strong> food and even <strong>soft finger foods<\/strong> like sliced banana. Remember, these three meals a day should be accompanied by three to four daily milk feeds. These include:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Rolling over in <strong>both<\/strong> directions\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Sitting up <strong>without help<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Rocking back and forth\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Turning their little head to track objects whilst sitting\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Picking up objects\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Pincer grip (thumb and finger)\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Putting weight through their feet during <strong>supported standing<\/strong> (or even pulling up to standing themselves!)\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Reaching for objects whilst sitting (and not falling whilst doing so)\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Another fun new skill your baby may learn at this time is<strong> crawling<\/strong>. However, crawling is <strong>not<\/strong> one of the essential 9-month baby milestones, and some little angels never crawl at all- they simply go straight to walking! There are also lots of <strong>different types<\/strong> of crawling, so don\u2019t panic if your sprog doesn\u2019t adopt the typical hands and knees approach.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>As your little explorer develops those mobility and coordination skills, be it picking up objects, crawling, or pulling up to stand, it\u2019s important to be wary about their <strong>safety<\/strong>. This means covering plug sockets and sharp corners and keeping dangerous objects out of reach. They also recognise <strong>commonly used words<\/strong> such as \u201cno.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Some of the brilliant communication skills your sweetie may exhibit during this time include:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Attempting to repeat sounds\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>A variety of sounds and syllables in their babbling\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Following simple requests or instructions such as \u201cput it down\u201d or \u201cwave bye bye\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Responding to their own name\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Eye contact during play\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Communicative gestures like head shaking and hand waving\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Reaching their arms up toward an adult to be picked up\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Your angel\u2019s attempts to copy sounds will soon evolve into the most thrilling of baby milestones- their first word! You can help them along in this incredible process by:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Reading stories\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Singing songs\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Pointing to and naming objects and people\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Chatting to your baby\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Asking your baby questions\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Narrating what you are doing\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>Praising their attempts at words by saying \u201cthat\u2019s right &lt;<em>attempted word&gt;<\/em> well done!\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2><strong>Play<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Playtime is a truly joyful time with your baby, and it is so adorable to see them having fun. As an added bonus, play is how babies <strong>learn<\/strong>! The first teeth to emerge will be the <strong>lower front teeth<\/strong>, followed by the <strong>upper front teeth<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Whilst your little one will surely look adorable with a big toothy grin, the teething process can be quite painful for your poppet. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/baby\/babys-development\/teething\/tips-for-helping-your-teething-baby\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NHS recommends<\/a> remedying the pain with a refrigerated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiddies-kingdom.com\/#q=teething&amp;page=0&amp;refinements=%5B%5D&amp;numerics_refinements=%7B%7D&amp;index_name=%22all_en%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">teething ring<\/a> and notes that you should <strong>not<\/strong> try to use general oral pain relief gel.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Once that cute little first tooth appears, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/baby\/babys-development\/teething\/looking-after-your-babys-teeth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NHS says<\/a> that you should register your sprog with a <strong>dentist<\/strong> and start <strong>brushing their teeth twice daily<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The best way to brush your bub\u2019s teeth is to pop them on your knee and place their head on your chest.
